RailsInstaller 1.1.1 Release!

Exciting news! We have released RailsInstaller 1.1.1 and the getting started experience is even easier than before! I’ve also created a new screencast embedded below which shows RailsInstaller, Git and deployment to Engine Yard AppCloud with the new free trial!

New 1.1.1 features include:

  • Prompts for Git user and email
  • Automatic ssh key generation
  • Automatically copy public ssh key to clipboard post install
  • Environmental configuration summary output on console opening

We’ve also bumped the versions of Ruby and Rails to:

  • Ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 334
  • Rails 3.0.6

We’re still bundling Ruby 1.8.7 because Ruby 1.8.7 still continues to be the better “out of the box” experience for newcomers to Ruby on Rails on Windows.

In the screencast below I demonstrate the installation workflow of RailsInstaller. I also show how to put your newly generated ssh public key on github and how to signup for an AppCloud trial account. (If you haven’t heard about the AppCloud free trial, you can learn more about it in our announcement post.)
