Engine Yard PaaS: Now comes in Azure!
Starting today, the Engine Yard platform will support Windows Azure. We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in the development of our PaaS as we continue our work to deliver the most flexible, dynamic, and feature-rich platform available.
Windows Azure customers can now purchase Engine Yard platform services through the Windows Azure Store. At the click of a button, you can buy a predefined configuration that manages 5 servers within your Windows Azure subscription. You will be able to take advantage of our new Ubuntu-based (12.04 LTS) three cluster configuration. This includes a new:
-
Load balancing cluster (HAproxy)
-
Ruby application cluster (Unicorn + Ruby 1.9.3)
-
MySQL cluster (MySQL Percona 5.5)
The Engine Yard add-on (IaaS not included!) will cost a cool $99/month, but you can try it for just $1 for the first month with the promo code “RUBY”. If you’d like an extra hand, with proactive incident response and 24/7 monitoring, the configuration with premium support is only $149/month.
Customers with unique requirements that don’t fit with our predefined configuration on Windows Azure should contact our Professional Services team for a more custom setup!
We’ve been working hard to make our platform more extensible and flexible. Our Windows Azure integration is part of the continual evolution of our systems that takes advantage of the new architecture we began rolling out at the beginning of the year. We’ve built a new provisioning system responsible for dealing with the always complex IaaS interactions. This system implements our infrastructure abstraction layer and gives us better visibility, development flexibility, and maintenance. Since putting it in production several months ago, we’ve seen provisioning success rates for customers increase at the same time that we’ve been adding an entirely new infrastructure integration.
We’re also happy to show off a new UI for our Windows Azure customers based on AngularJS. This UI builds on the preview we featured earlier in the year with the announcement of our new architecture. Let us know what you think about the new look and feel, and check out our full set of documentation here!
In the coming months, we will be expanding our support for these new cluster types and deepening our integration with Windows Azure to include more features, stack options, and more. Exciting times ahead! Try out Engine Yard on Windows Azure for just $1 for your first month with our promo code: “RUBY”!
