Movember is Back!
It’s that time of year again. The temperature’s getting colder, leaves are changing color, and men all around are doing their best to grow the manliest moustache on the planet. Yep, Movember is happening and members of the Engine Yard Facial Hair Club are hard at work trying to grow their mo’s.
What is Movember?
Movember was started in 2003 by a couple of guys sitting in a bar in Australia as a way to “bring back the moustache” and quickly grew into a worldwide cause to raise awareness and funding for men’s health issues. In 2012, Movember raised $147 million for men’s health issues. Last year, the Engine Yard team raised over $3,000 to help further the cause.
Meet the Mo’s
The Engine Yard Facial Hair Club consists of employees of Engine Yard who want to raise awareness of men’s health issues. While the men will sacrifice their faces by sporting some sweet facial hair, women are also encouraged to get involved and support Movember by becoming a “Mo Sista.” Engine Yard is very active in the technology community but the health of our community is just as important. Movember is just one of the ways to keep our community healthy and informed.
Get involved
If you aren’t an Engine Yard employee but want to help support us, there are a few ways you can get involved.
The best way to support the Engine Yard Facial Hair Club is to go to our team page and make a donation. From there, you can meet the members of our team and leave a comment for the team.
You can also help by spreading the word and getting our moustachio-ed faces out there. Aside from linking to our page on your social networks, go analog and tell your friends personally. Word-of-mouth is still one of the fastest and best ways to communicate.
Knowledge is power
Growing moustaches is lots of fun but in all seriousness, this month’s hairy challenge is for a good cause. If you’re a man, make sure to educate yourself and if you’re a woman, encourage the men in your life to be healthier. The Movember site has some great tips and links to good web sites at http://us.movember.com/mens-health/resources. Thanks for reading, now go forth and mo!
