The State of PaaS 2013
As each year goes by, cloud computing–and more importantly, the PaaS (Platform as a Service) infrastructure and market–grows increasingly more crucial for storied and emerging businesses alike.
Analysts at Gartner and Forrester have projected that the growth of the PaaS market will continue its upward trend for the foreseeable future, and we couldn’t agree more. But our opinions aside, we wanted to hear from the market at large, and worked with a third party organization, IT Business Edge, to find out what they thought of the current state of PaaS. Indeed, some interesting trends emerged from the answers provided. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the findings:
- Java, JavaScript, .NET and PHP continue to be the most dominant languages in web application development
- 62% of respondents use PaaS for mobile and ecommerce applications, followed by social and gaming applications
- A three way tie (75%) was observed between “delivering apps faster to market”, “augment your team’s expertise” and “more time for application innovation” when asked about the benefits of using a PaaS
There is no doubt that a PaaS solution has now become more valuable for growing businesses and applications. The cloud platform solution no longer solely represents an operational benefit, but also a strategic one.
- 30% of the survey respondents have already implemented a PaaS solution
- 13% planned to implement a PaaS solution in the next year
Needless to say, we look forward to more feedback from you about the survey and PaaS in general. Check out the rest of the survey here, and be sure to sound off in the comments below.
